Newgarden plays down engine delay

IndyCar rookie Josef Newgarden is confident that the Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing team will be sufficiently prepared for next weekend's IndyCar season-opener in St Petersburg, even though its testing was limited by the late arrival of its engine. Despite having Newgarden signed and the chassis in the workshop since December, the team was only able to get its hands on an engine from Honda just before the recent Sebring test. Newgarden was able to complete four days of running, and said that it was enough to provide some direction for the first race

Toro Rosso buoyed by qualifying

Toro Rosso's Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne both hailed a 'positive' qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix after sealing 10th and 11th respectively on the grid for Sunday's race. Both drivers were in contention to progress into Q3, with just over one tenth of a second all that separated Ricciardo - who took the final slot ? and Vergne. The Australian said the achievement was a real boost for both himself and the team ahead of what will be his maiden home grand prix on Sunday.

Sauber: Qualifying belied true pace

Sauber believes that the midfield grid positions it starts Sunday's Australian Grand Prix with do not accurately reflect the competitiveness of its C31 contender in Melbourne. Review: Verizon's LG Spectrum offers speed, long life -- and weird UI customization

Verizon's LG Spectrum phone -- equipped with 4G LTE, a great 4.5-inch screen, and a dual-core, 1.5GHz processor -- provides speed and impressive battery life, according to this eWEEK review. However, author Clint Boulton adds, the touchscreen was sometimes unresponsive, and the customizations LG has layered on Android 2.3 aren't much of a success....

Johnson optimistic on second appeal

Jimmie Johnson is hopeful of a positive outcome of the final appeal process against the penalties levied to his team following the Daytona 500. The five-time Sprint Cup champion could be on the verge of losing a key part of his crew for a number of races, plus a hefty amount of championship points, when his team faces National Stock Car Chief Appellate Officer John Middlebrook next week. Last Tuesday Hendrick Motorsports lost its first appeal against the penalties imposed, the National Stock Car Appeal Panel upholding a six-week suspension for crew chief Chad Knaus and car Chief Ron Malec, a US $100,000 fine for Knaus, and a 25 points deduction in the drivers and owners standing

HP sneaks out new dv4, dv6, dv7 and g4 Pavilion laptops, Ivy Bridge in tow (video)

We know Ivy Bridge is close to landing, but when damn it, when? Until we know for sure, what about these new notebooks from HP that sneaked out with barely a flicker of ballyhoo. There are four new Pavilions on their way, the dv4-5000, dv6-7000, dv7-6000 and g4-2000. All of them are getting the Ivy Bridge treatment bar the g4, which sticks with Sandy Bridge. The dv4 and dv6 both sport 2.3GHz i7-3610QM processors, GeForce GT630M graphics, Beats Audio and 14-inch or 15.6-inch (1366 x 768) displays respectively. The dv7 model steps things up with a 2.6GHZ i7-3720QM chip, GeForce GT 650M graphics and 17.3-inches of 1920 x 1080 screen. The g4, on the other hand, comes in a range of processing flavors, including the i3-2350M and i5-2450M Sandy Bridge variants and a 14-inch screen. The g-series will likely carry a £399 (about $630) price-tag, while the dv6 and dv7 are rumored start around £599 ($940) when they eventually land potentially in April -- but don't count your chickens.
